Lab Research

Our research goal is to further the theoretical, empirical, and clinical understanding of the biobehavioral responses to the diagnosis, treatment, and course of cancer. This over arching mission examines mechanisms of 'mind-body' effects in cancer and advances the science of cancer control. This includes continuing studies characterizing the psychological and behavioral aspects of cancer and extension to randomized clinical trials testing empirically supported therapies for enhancing quality of life and preventing/reducing survivorship problems.

Our mentoring goal is to select and train the best and brightest pre and postdoctoral trainees for research careers in cancer prevention and control. This includes students in the behavioral sciences and those from related fields and positions (junior faculty, physicians, residents, nurse investigators). We aim to establish a cadre of research scientists with interdisciplinary skills to address the complex issues of cancer prevention and control. Mentoring is an effective way to establish such a core of investigators.
