Brittany M. Brothers

Brittany Brothers began her studies at Indiana University in 1992. There she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business degree with distinction in marketing and finance in 1996. After seven years of employment in business, she enrolled in psychology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Her undergraduate research project was entitled Psychological Adjustment to Illness Among Husbands of Women with Fibromyalgia, under the mentorship of Dr. Silvia M. Bigatti. She was awarded a grant from the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program for this research.

In September of 2004, she began her studies in clinical psychology at The Ohio State University. Her master?s degree research project was entitled Hopelessness, Social Support, and Depression in Recurrent Breast Cancer Patients: A Test of the Hopelessness Theory of Depression. She has two additional research papers in press, one examining relationships of coping, stress and quality of life in recurrent breast cancer patients and a book chapter regarding depression and cancer.

Her primary research and clinical interest is depression in cancer patients and survivors. She is currently dedicated to a new project, Treatment of Depressive Symptoms in Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors. This project offers clinical services to treat depression in all cancer patients and survivors. There is also a concurrent research study that examines the efficacy of this treatment. Working with Barbara L. Andersen, Ph.D., and Daniel R. Strunk, Ph.D., she was awarded two grants for this project. She is a co-investigator on a grant awarded from The Columbus Affiliate for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the primary investigator on a grant from the Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship.
