Laura J. Peterson

Laura Peterson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University in 1994 with a double major in psychology and sociology.  During her undergraduate studies, she developed skills as a crisis intervention specialist and trainer for hotlines dealing with issues such as suicide, family violence and AIDS.  This work contributed to her strong interest in crisis prevention as a health educator.  While taking graduate courses in education at The Ohio State University, she combined her background in the areas of mental health and education to assist clients with severe schizophrenia and autism in coping and adjustment to mainstream environments.

In January of 1999, she began her current position in the clinical psychology department as Program Manager of the Stress and Immunity Cancer Projects where she supervises the accrual, assessment, and follow up for 600+ participants for a series of biobehavioral research projects.

During that time, she completed her Masters degree in Public Health (MPH).  Her master's project included the design and analysis of a web based research survey, Traditional and Complimentary Health Services:  A Study of College Student Wellness.

In addition, she received certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Coaching Health Behaviors (from the Cooper Institute) and as a Student Wellness Coach (at the Ohio State University).  She is also an active member of the Wellness Collaborative and is pursing health psychology related research in physical activity with cancer patients as well as complementary alternative medicine and wellness with college students.
