Lisa Marie Thornton

 Lisa M. Thornton obtained her Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Psychology in 1999 at Ohio State University.  She defended her undergraduate honor?s thesis in behavioral medicine, entitled Ethnic Differences in Cardiovascular Reactivity in Caucasians and Asian Indians, under the mentorship of Dr. Catherine Stoney.  She was also among the top 3% of her graduating class honored in the President?s Salute to Undergraduate Acheivement.  Lisa completed her graduate studies in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Quantitative Psychology under the mentorship of Dr. Barbara L. Andersen. Her Master?s thesis, Psychosocial Predictors of Breast Cancer Recurrence, was successfully defended in 2002.  She received a predoctoral fellowship from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to conduct her dissertation research.  The project, Stress and Immunity in a Longitudinal Study of Breast Cancer Patients, was successfully defended in 2004.  During this time, Lisa was also active in additional research efforts, presenting an average of three projects per year at national conferences.  She served her clinical internship at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan and graduated in 2005. 

Lisa is currently an American Cancer Society post-doctoral fellow in the Stress and Immunity Cancer Project.  As a post-doctoral fellow for the Stress and Immunity Cancer Project, Lisa has developed her writing, grantsmanship, and clinical skills.  She recently received a Distinguished Student Award from the Society of Behavioral Medicine.  Her current research focus is in breast cancer survivorship psychoneuroimmunology, emotion, and health outcomes.
