
Lisa Thornton began her studies at the Ohio State University in 1996. There she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in psychology in 1999. She also received the Ohio State University Tradition, H&R Block Foundation, Name & Seal, Scarlet & Gray, and H. Collins awards. Her senior honors thesis was entitled Ethnic Differences in Cardiovascular Reactivity in Caucasians and Asian Indians, with the mentorship of Dr. Catherine Stoney. In June of 1999 she began her studies in clinical psychology at The Ohio State University. During graduate school she has pursued research interests in the topics of cancer recurrence and psychoneuroimmunology. She has also sought clinical opportunities in health psychology, cognitive impairment, and anxiety disorders.
Lisa's research began with a first year project on the topic of psychological factors as predictors of cancer incidence and progression. This research evolved into her Master's thesis, entitled Psychosocial Predictors of Breast Cancer Recurrence.
Lisa defended her dissertation, entitled Stress and Immunity in a Longitudinal Study of Breast Cancer Patients, in June, 2004. She served her clinical internship at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan and graduated in June, 2005. She is currently working as a post-doctoral fellow for the Stress and Immunity Cancer Project.
