Sharla Wells-Di Gregorio

Sharla Wells-Di Gregorio was born in Lynchburg, Ohio.  She completed her B.A. summa cum laude, with honors in psychology at Miami University in 1993.  She then obtained her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Northwestern University Medical School after completing an internship in health psychology/consultation liaison psychiatry at the University of California Neuropsychiatric Institute in 1999.  Dr. Wells-Di Gregorio was a postdoctoral fellow with the Stress and Immunity Cancer Projects from 1999-2003.  In 2001 she was awarded the Ann and Herbert Siegel American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship for her study, Social support and health outcomes of partners of recurrent breast cancer patients.  This study examined the physical, psychological, and immune outcomes for partners of women diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer.  Dr. Wells-Di Gregorio is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at The Ohio State University Medical Center.  She serves full-time as a clinical psychologist for the Pain and Palliative Medicine Program helping cancer patients and their family members to manage pain, depression, anxiety and other difficulties that accompany advanced disease.  Her research interests include family adjustment to advanced/terminal disease, stress, immunity, and physical symptoms, and family-based advance care planning.
