
Hae-Chung Yang spent most of her childhood and adolescence in Seoul, South Korea. She began her studies at Ewha Women's University in 1986 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with honors in 1990. She went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology in 1992 at Ewha, writing a Master's thesis entitled A Study of Death Anxiety among the Elderly with Focus on Locus of Control and Social Support. After receiving her MA, she worked as an intern at the Seoul National University Hospital, while teaching courses in child development at Suwon Women's College. She came to the US in 1994 and began her studies in Counseling Psychology at the University of Connecticut in September of 1995. After receiving her MA in 1997, she studied family relations and received her Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies in 2004. Her dissertation was The Effects of Gender Role Ideology, Wife's Employment, and Perceived Equity on Marital Quality: A Case of Young Middle-Class Couples in Korea, under the supervision of Dr. Ronald Sabatelli. The study directly tested "cross-partner" effects and the mediating effects of perceived equity, using structural equation modeling (SEM). She joined the Stress & Immunity Cancer Projects at The Ohio State University in September of 2004 where she currently performs data management and statistical analyses.
