Amanda Slater

Amanda Slater was born in Pataskala, Ohio.  She served an 11-month term of service with the AmeriCorps National Readiness and Response Corps in Tampa, Florida prior to matriculating at Case Western Reserve University in 2003.  Amanda graduated from CWRU in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health Studies.  Her senior research paper was entitled LST's Impact on Measures of 5th and 6th Graders' Tobacco-related Attitudes, Knowledge, and Susceptibility: An Evaluation of One Tobacco Component in a Shaker Heights Elementary School, with mentorship of Dr. Scott Frank, M.D.  Amanda worked with Dr. Melvyn C. Goldstein for The Center of Research on Tibet project from February, 2004 until May, 2007.  She assisted Dr. Goldstein's project of conducting research on Tibetan history, society, language and culture.  During this time, Amanda has also volunteered with the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland as a Medical History Taker.  Amanda began working with the Stress and Immunity Cancer Project in October of 2007 as a research assistant for the gynecological and breast cancer projects.  In the future Amanda hopes to pursue a career in medicine and continue in public health research.
